Oak Wilt
Q.  I hear a lot about Oak Wilt.  What exactly is it and how can I prevent it?

A.  Oak Wilt is a fungus that plugs the "veins" of the tree and reduces the flow of water through the tree.  This causes the leaves to wilt and fall prematurely.

Oak Wilt is spread by beetles who feed on the infected tree and move to another.  It is also spread through interconnecting roots.

To prevent Oak Wilt, only haves tree pruned during the coldest part of the winter and use a pruning paint immediately after pruning to protect exposed areas.

Lawn Watering
Q.  What is the best time of day to water my lawn?

A.  Early morning waterings are the very best for a number of reasons.  First, weather is usually cool and calm and humidity is high which means the water evaporates less.  Second, morning watering gives the lawn an opportunity to dry off before evening.  Wet grass at night is a lawn diseases dream!  The vicious little lawn pests thrive on a wet lawn at night so avoid this by watering early enough in the day to allow it to dry before nightfall.

Weed Control
Q.  What is the best way to keep my weeds under control?

A.  Covering beds with a thick layer of mulch (about 3") will go a long way to help controlling those weeds.  It also helps retain moisture.  If your weeds continue to be an issue, just call us and we'll come pull them for you.
